Yes the ticking goes faster when i accelerate. When i keep same speed and shift up. The ticking slows down with my RPM. Example. 6000rpm in 4th, upshift to 5th. Then I’ll be at 4000rpm in 5th. Ticking will slow down because I’ll be at 4000rpm. RPM dictates how fast the ticking is.

Funny you mention pressure. The larger airbox in the Ninja 400 and the long air inlet tubes actually increase the speed in which the airbox is filled thus possibly creating a slight positive pressurization under the Helmholtz resonance principle. Downdraft intakes are mainly on supersport engines.
When I had my 300 my RPMs were always around 7.5k when cruising and I was usually in 5th gear. I don't remember what speed I was at I thin like 55-60mph. When you're going up hill you want to be in a lower gear so you have the power needed to climb unless you're already at speed when hitting the hill.
We just have too many long, straight roads with high speed limits, and let's be honest, the population is substantially heavier than a lot of European/Asian countries on average. A 250 is wheezing and huffing trying to keep a 200-250lb rider rolling at 75MPH. I think the sweet spot for small/beginner bikes in the USA, anyway, is probably 400-500CC.
